Hyperbaric oxygen is relatively safe and non-invasive, it is important to check if you are fit for HBOT before we proceed with your scheduled hyperbaric oxygen session.
1) Who should not attempt hyperbaric oxygen?
Since hyperbaric oxygen therapy requires a pressure higher than the normal atmospheric pressure, this creates tension in the tissues that may be contraindicated with some medical conditions. If you are anxious of the possible complications, you should to consult your medical physician for professional medical advice and recommendations.
The following list are contraindications and precautions from hyperbaric medicine and persons with these conditions should refrain from HBOT.

- have a history of burst lung.
- have an implanted electronic medical device such as a pacemaker/automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD).
- have a history of seizures (fits).
- have cardiac diseases.
- have a history of chest surgery.
- have a history of heart failure.

2) How can i prepare prior to my appointment?
Great! You’re safe to proceed and you will be entering the HBOT which will be pressurized to 1.4ATA (4m deep water) and will be breathing up to 95% oxygen. Here are some things to note:
- Before coming for your appointment
- Wear/bring clean cotton clothing and socks for hygiene and to prevent static electricity buildup
- Do not put on any oil or alcohol based grooming products such as perfume, hairspray, or makeup.
- Set aside at least 2 hours for the HBOT session.
- Bring a soft water bottle (disposable plastic or silicone bottle). Metal or Nalgene bottles are not allowed inside the HBOT. Sweets can be brought into the HBOT too.
- What you could do at your appointment
- Come early if you wish to exercise at the gym or swim before your sports recovery HBOT session.
- Bring your facial towel and beauty products to apply on during the beauty HBOT session.
- Bring your favourite pillow to rest on and sleep through your HBOT session.
- Perform breathing exercises, stretching and massage to maximize your HBOT session.
- Before entering the HBOT
- Do not carry any items into the HBOT that could ignite a fire (eg. lighters, match sticks, etc.).
- Remove and do not bring in any sharp objects including jewelry into the HBOT.
- Make sure you take a visit to the washroom for obvious reasons!
3) What can i expect during my appointment?
Please arrive on time and please inform us if you are not feeling well before entering the HBOT. For example, if you have a blocked nose or having a fever.
- Entry
- For hygiene, wear cotton socks please! It will also keep you warm if it gets cold inside the HBOT.
- The HBOT can be entered easily with or without support. We will be there if you need us to be!
- You can choose to sit on a soft comfortable Japanese chair which is adjustable or have a set of pillows to lay down.
- Select between different oxygen masks (external headset, half face mask, full face mask) for your desired purpose and comfort
- During compression (10-30mins)
- Once you are comfortable inside the HBOT, we will begin slow compression. This is where the Valsalva maneuver or swallowing saliva, could be performed to ease and equalize pressure changes within our ears.
- The feeling is similar to taking a plane and your ears ‘pop’ when pressure is released.
- The temperature will rise slightly as pressure increases. It is science! PV=nRT if you can recall.
- We will maintain visual and verbal communication through the windows of the HBOT to ensure your comfort and if you need any form of assistance.
- At any point of time when discomfort is experienced, we will slow down compression or halt until you are ready to proceed. It is perfectly normal and we will be there to help.
- You should not feel pain at any time. Inform us whenever you feel uneasy. We are here to help.
- Enjoyment (45-70mins)
- Once the pressure stabilizes, you can get comfortable and enjoy the high pressured high oxygen concentration environment.
- This is where you can relax, read a book, sleep, apply beauty products, stretch, conduct breathing exercises, or even catch up on your Korean drama.
- Decompression (10-15mins)
- At the end of the HBOT session, we will decompress the chamber before a safe exit.
- The pressure will be released slowly until you are back to 1 atmosphere.
- You can exit the HBOT with or without support. Again, we will be there for you!
- Exit
- Once you are out, get comfortable and share with us your favourite beverage! We will prepare for you if we can and enjoy a drink together.
